Workshop Description:

This workshop builds on the foundation provided in the program entitled “Introduction to Forensic Expert Analysis.” It is highly recommended that attendees of this program have attended the introductory workshop. In this program, attendees will learn how to interface with legal counsel relative to understanding the scope of the expert assignment, resisting inappropriate influence, understanding the basic rules of evidence, the expert’s role in the discovery process and issues of privilege. The program will also provide more in-depth instruction into the process of drafting an expert report relative to report structure, using citations, disclosure of presumptions, “Rule 26” disclosures, and preparation of common exhibits. Finally, attendees will be provided more in-depth instruction relative to preparing for depositions and trial testimony.

Michael D. Miscoe

Michael D. Miscoe, JD, CPC, CPCO, CPMA, CASCC, CCPC, CUC, CEMA, AAPC Fellow President, Practice Masters, Inc., and Founding Partner, Miscoe Health Law, LLC


Michael Miscoe has served on AAPC’s NAB since 2013, is a member of the Legal Advisory Board, and is chair of the AAPC Ethics Committee. He has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare coding and more than 20 years as a forensic coding/compliance expert and consultant. Miscoe is admitted to the Bar in California as well as to the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts in the Southern District of California and the Western District of Pennsylvania. He has an extensive national speaking background and has been published on a variety of coding, compliance, and health law topics. Miscoe is a member and past president of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, local chapter.

Christopher A. Parrella is a member of The Health Law Offices of Anthony C. Vitale, P.A. The firm was established in 1982 and is recognized nationwide as a leading defense firm in health care law and consulting. The firm concentrates exclusively in criminal, civil, overpayment, regulatory, licensure, and compliance representation for all health care provider/supplier types. Chris travels the country on behalf of a wide range of health care organizations lecturing on varying topics affecting their particular industries. He is a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) National Legal Advisory Board and Ethics Committee. Chris is a Certified Professional Coder and Certified Professional Compliance Officer designated by the AAPC. He is also Certified in Healthcare Compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association of America (HCCA.) Chris received his Juris Doctor from the Massachusetts School of Law and is a member of the State Bar. He received his bachelor's degree from Stony Brook University.
