Differences Between Chiropractic Documentation and Medical Documentation Webinar

Understanding Chiropractic vs. Medical Paradigms: Implications for Claims Auditing

When auditing or reviewing claims most specialties follow the same basic documentation rules. Auditing or reviewing chiropractic claims requires an understanding of the nature of the chiropractic treatment paradigm and how it affects documentation.

This webinar explains the chiropractic treatment paradigm. It also explains what documentation needs to be requested, how auditors and reviewers should consider that documentation, and what is normal for the chiropractic episode of care. It will also cover some of the indicators of a problem claim.

Learning Objectives/Agenda

• Learn how the chiropractic treatment paradigm is different from the medical treatment paradigm
• How this difference affects the auditing and reviewing of chiropractic claims

Why is this topic important?

The vast majority of auditors and reviewers consider chiropractic claims in the same way they would consider any medical claim. The inherent differences between the nature of chiropractic care and medical care causes inaccuracies in the review process causing wasted time and resources.

Who would benefit from this topic?

• Insurance Reviewers & Auditors
• Medicare Reviewers & Auditors

What’s the presenter's background/expertise on this topic?

Ron is a graduate chiropractor with practice experience as well as 14 years of compliance experience and coding experience. He is able to “speak the language” of both sides of this discussion and can bridge the gap in understanding that currently exists. He also developed the concepts that help to communicate these differences.
