Hello! I'm a CPC with a current remote coding job, but wondering if getting my bachelor's in HIM would be beneficial to my career or not? Thinking about going back to school, but don't want to if it won't eventually benefit me if I stay in this career field!

Thank you!!

What is your five year plan? What do you want to do? Education is valuable, but you should focus on a program that's going to provide you with the skill set you will need based on your interests. HIM is helpful if you want to do more data analysis, higher-level coding and/or medical records management. If you're interested in leadership/management, consider a degree in health administration. Do you like project management? There are specific programs for that. Revenue? get an MBA. Education (in my experience anyway) generally provides more opportunity and higher salaries, but it makes sense to head in the right direction at this point with coursework that supports your interests. Good luck....no education is wasted.
